About Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship
The Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev) initiative aims to improve the use of science, technology, business, and innovation in rural agriculture to address developmental challenges. The Mastercard Foundation has partnered with the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) at Egerton University in Kenya and Gulu University in Uganda to train African youth and develop African universities’ capacity for national development.
The Mastercard Foundation, in collaboration with the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), Egerton University in Kenya, and Gulu University in Uganda, is implementing a project to train competent and highly skilled African youth while also developing African universities’ capacity to effectively train and nurture graduates with relevant skills. The “Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev)” project aims to improve the application of science, technology, business, and innovation in rural agriculture to address developmental challenges better.
Mastercard TAGDev scholarship supports 110 undergraduate and 110 postgraduate students in the two selected early adopter universities (Egerton University and Gulu University). It will support the focused delivery of transformative activities to ensure the production of entrepreneurial graduates with leadership skills and the potential to create an impact in rural communities.

What Is Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship All About?
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), in collaboration with Mastercard Foundation, includes Gulu University (Uganda), Egerton University (Kenya), Africa University (Zimbabwe), University of Free State (South Africa), Malawi University of Science and Technology (Malawi), University of Eldoret (Kenya), Uganda Martyrs University (Uganda), University of Port Harcourt (Nigeria), University of Cape Coast (Ghana), and University of Bamenda (Cameroon).
The program aims to develop universities and TVET institutions so that they can better serve communities by training and empowering African youth and their institutions to create inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient agriculture and agrifood systems. The program will help young African students who are economically underprivileged yet intellectually capable continue their studies. The award is offered to both male and female applicants. However, applications from women, refugees, and those with impairments are strongly encouraged.

Eligibility For The Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship 2025
Candidates applying for the TAGDev 2.0 Scholarship must take note of the following eligibility requirements.
- Be a national of Kenya and Uganda to benefit from the national respective scholarship quota
- Be a refugee residing in Uganda and Kenya to benefit from a regional quota
- Be from economically disadvantaged, marginalized communities, coming from conflict and post-conflict areas.
- Be less than 25 years for undergraduate and less than 30 years for masters studies at the time of application.
- Applicants must be 29 years and below for a refugee and persons with disability for undergraduate studies and 34 years and below for refugees and persons with disability for master studies at the time of application.
- Should have completed secondary school and/or a diploma for a bachelor’s degree application not more than two years from the time of this call.
- The applicant should meet admission criteria to eligible programs in the university of choice (Egerton University or Gulu University).
- For admission into Gulu University for an undergraduate degree programme one must have attained a High School Certificate (HSC) also known as Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
- For admission into Egerton University, one must have completed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
- Demonstrate interest in agriculture, agribusiness, and entrepreneurship
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and commitment to service of humanity

To apply for the Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship, interested and qualified applicants should;

- Candidates are encouraged to fill out the online application and print it out to attach to their application for admission to the university of choice.
- Access the Online RIMS Web Portal through;
- Create your account by clicking on Register Here.
- An email will be sent to your valid email address to activate your account
- Login to the dashboard and select the Call ID: RU/2024/TAGDev-2.0/001
- Click Apply to start filling out the Application Form.
- Remember to save while filling out the form by “Clicking Save Draft”
- Download, print, and submit it with your application form for admission to the University of your choice.
