When Is JAMB 2023 Starting?
The 2023/2024 Computer Based (CBT) UTME exam will take place from Saturday 29th April 2023 to Monday 12th May 2023. On the other hand, the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mock examination will be held on 16th March 2023, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
It did, however, advise all applicants who had enrolled and planned to participate in the mock exam to take note of the new date and prepare accordingly.
Brief Information About JAMB
The country had seven (7) Federal Universities by 1974. Each of these existing universities had its own concessional test and accepted students.
However, this admissions procedure showed significant flaws and, in many cases, a waste of resources in the administration of the concessional examination, particularly on the side of the candidates. This led the committee of vice-chancellors to be concerned about the general disorganization in the uncoordinated system of university admissions and the resulting consequences.
Just as the matter was under consideration, the then-federal military administration, led by General Olusegun Obasanjo in 1976, founded six (6) additional universities, giving these issues a new dimension.
As a result, the government established a national committee on university entrance, chaired by Mr. M. S. Angulu. It was expressly requested that the Committee investigate the potential of establishing a Joint Matriculation Board. The Committee suggested that the Central Admissions Board and the Joint Matriculation Board be established.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board was established when the Federal military administration adopted several of the committee’s suggestions. The legal instrument constituting the Board, however, was promulgated by the Federal Military Government’s legislation (no. 2 of 1978) on February 13, 1978.
By August 1988, the Federal Executive Council had amended decree No. 2 of 1978 to authorize the Board to conduct matriculation examinations for admission to all polytechnics and colleges of education in the country, as well as to place suitably qualified candidates in these institutions’ open positions.
