About JAMB
JAMB is an abbreviation that stands for Joint Admission and Matriculation Board. It is an examination body responsible for regulating admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria and across some other African countries.
The legal instrument establishing the Board was promulgated by the Act (No. 2 of 1978) of the Federal Military Government on February 13th, 1978. In August 1988, the Federal Executive Council amended Decree No. 2 of 1978. The amendments have since been codified into Decree No. 33 of 1989, which took effect on December 7th, 1989.
As a body, JAMB is charged with the responsibility of administering similar examinations for applicants to Nigerian public and private monotechnics, polytechnics, colleges of education, and universities. To be eligible for the JAMB examination, candidates must have obtained the West Africa School Certificate, now the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, or its equivalent, the National Examination Council (Nigeria), NECO.

How To Register For The 2024 JAMB Examination
To register for JAMB-UTME, candidates would need to go to a JAMB-accredited CBT-Center to register for the exam and collect their printout slip.
Here’s a step-by-step process for JAMB registration:
Step 1: Create a profile
This is done by sending NIN, then you add space followed by the 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 as an SMS. Before creating a JAMB profile, ensure you validate your email address. This shows that your email is authentic and accessible.
Example: NIN 1234476767 to 55019 or 66019
After this is done, the candidate receives a 10-digit code on the same number the message was sent through. This 10-digit number is what will be used to purchase the JAMB E-pins.
Step 2: Purchase ePins
During JAMB registration, every candidate is expected to purchase the ePin to commence application. Payment for JAMB’s ePin registration and the recommended reading text is to be done at the banks, CBT centers, and JAMB State Offices.
You can pay for JAMB ePin through your bank, ATM, POS, mobile transfer, or online payment on the JAMB portal.
Step 3: Complete your registration
After purchasing the ePin, the next step is to move to an accredited JAMB CBT center for online registration. Here, the candidate is expected to present the ePIN at any accredited CBT Centre for validation and completion of JAMB registration. The name of the candidate, as typed by the candidate on his or her phone when registering the profile comes up automatically on the input of the e-PIN by the CBT center.
During the registration, you are to do the following:
- Fill in the choice of institutions and programs (course of study).
- Provide qualifications with grades and dates if you are not awaiting a result.
- Upload relevant certificates.
- O/L and/or A/L grades are to be provided by candidates. Candidates who are awaiting results should supply (upload) the results online on CAPS (JAMB) as soon as they are available on JAMB’s portal. No recommendations from any institution will be considered by JAMB if the candidate has not uploaded his or her result on the JAMB portal. No institution is allowed to take a new picture, photograph, or biometric or require any other upload of the result. All results are downloadable by institutions from the board’s website (and the download is tracked to avoid abuse)
- For direct entry (DE) applicants, you are to tender your JAMB registration number for previous institutional certificates.
- Fill in preferred UTME subjects and choice of examination town(s)
- Mock examination (optional). For mock tests, candidates are to pay for the mock test on the day of the exam.
- Review details to ensure nothing is wrongly written.
- Print Registration Slip USING BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION to confirm valid fingerprint (UTME/DE). Note that authentication with your fingerprint removes blame for errors from CBT centers. Candidates are to check before confirming with their fingerprints
- Collect, at no other cost, the reading text and CD
- Collect the e-slip after registration as evidence of registration.
